When is it let in padel?
We have covered our service rules in our basic rules of padel article.
What does a let in padel mean?
The let means you can replay that point or serve. If it was your first serve, you will take your first serve again, and the same for your second serve.
A let will occur in padel in the following scenario:
The service touches or brushes the net when crossing and still lands in the field of play as per normal rules.
That seems simple enough.
Let’s take a look at some scenarios and decide if a let must be played, or if the service is to be called a fault:
We will assume in each scenario the ball has touched or brushed the net.
- Ball comes back to the server’s side of play: ball is out
- Ball takes first bounce into the incorrect service box: ball is out
- Ball bounces once in the opposite box and hits the glass: play let
- Ball bounces once in the opposite box and hits the fence: ball is out
- Ball bounces twice in play: play let
The let can also occur if the receiver was not ready to receive the serve.
As amateurs playing without an umpire the scenario may also arise where you and the other playing duo are uncertain of a rule or a call is not clear. If you are all in doubt you can also play a let and repeat that service.
We hope that this covers the basics of the let for your padel game.
